Go ahead and leave your porch light on I'll be coming home I'll leave my muddy shoes outside your door Cause I'd hate to leave my tracks all across your spotless floor Been workin on forgettin All the things that I have learned All that I've been through since I've begun Let me see it one more time the way it was When I was young Go ahead and leave your door unlocked And know I'm on my way If I knocked I couldn't tell you my own name Cause the ones that we've been given aren't the ones it takes our whole lives to say Been workin on forgettin All the feelings I have felt Any time I failed If I tried Let me see it one more time the way it was When I was a child Go ahead and get yourself some sleep I could take all night To try and get myself There from Here And I know we'll have a whole new set of worries By this same time next year Been workin on forgettin Expectations I have had A thing that seems impossible to do Let me see it one more time the way it was When it was new

Whirlwind 04:06
When I first left my home I snuck out in the night Cause no one could stop me If they didn't know I packed up my bags With all my prized possessions I thought that I might need And climbed out my window But, there was some place else That I Had to be And, I didn't know where But, for myself I Had to see There was so much that I didn't know So much that I didn't know There was so much that I didn't know But Home Wasn't Home for me The first place that I came to was a church Pretty little white building on a hill And the people there were so nice They invited me right in And, they were all smiling, full of joy Dancing, clapping their hands And singing all their song Of salvation for their sins Chorus But, Church Wasn't Home for me The next place that I came to was a school People there were busy as can be Packing up their bags With things that they might need And they're making their big plans To leave their Home For the first time And, I hope that they succeed Chorus But, School Wasn't Home for me I was in a whirlwind And I was lost Didn't have a friend No place to go I was tired I was alone There was so much I didn't know I was a man Without a Home

Carried Away 02:00
There's a big storm blowing in It's on the horizon I hope I don't get carried away Tornado's gonna touch down The middle of my small town Well, don't let me get carried away Thunder and lightening And it's all oh so frightening But still Exciting as can be I hear the wind call out to me All the sudden I'm as brave as can be I must be getting carried away I look around, there's no one there Then I look down and I'm in the air And I know I'm getting carried away Chorus Then I'm in a tree and upside down There's carrion birds all circling 'round I let myself get carried away Gonna get my feet back on the ground And find a little bit bigger small town For the next time I get carried away Chorus

Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone, poorboy Where has the sun done gone Gone only God knows where Gone only God knows where Gone only God knows where, little darling Where has the sun done gone I'm all out and down I'm all out and down I'm all out and down and I'm laid way bound Where has the sun done gone I'm a poorboy a long way from home Poorboy a long way from home Poorboy a long way from home, little darling Where has the sun done gone Which way does that Red River run Which way does that Red River run Which way oh which way does that Red River run Where has the sun done gone Runs in and out these old hills Runs in and out these old hills Cuts through the land like an old river will Where has the sun done gone Think I'ma float on a while Think I'ma float on a while I'll float on down maybe a couple hundred miles Where has the sun done gone Blood Red River carry me Blood Red River carry me Deliver my body to the middle of the sea Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone, poor boy Where has the sun done gone Where has the sun done gone, poor boy Where has the sun done gone

I'm a dirt road traveler Hitching along in some stranger's shoes A genuine Old Time pretender Pickin at some old poorboy blues It's an intoxicating opportunity When there's someone else that you'd rather be But, when that bottle's empty And, you find you're still alone You stumble til you find your way back home I'm a dirt road traveler On a pilgrimage that never seems to end A trailblazing pioneer frontiersman Slippin through someone's barbed wire fence Chorus I'll be a dirt road traveler Til I'm buried faraway in my grave A sixteen digit frequent-flyin rambler And, I sure hope your road don't get paved Chorus
6.
I thought that I might go out and bare my soul But, for a dollar at a time it was sold I thought that I might change a mind or two But, changing mine was all I seemed to do I don't wanna be A roadside attraction Don't wanna do the organ grinder Dance anymore The mystery and novelty Well, it's all been lost on me From singing With the clowns and the whores There's dirty folks down on dirty streets Where Hope and Desperation come to meet Yeah, they're well-acquainted and don't y'know They do one hell of a juggling show Chorus Let's take off all our makeup Wash our faces one last time It's been such a fun bag of tricks But, for now, let's leave it behind Chorus You can come out any time of day And, hear the old accordion man play See the tight rope walker way up high And for a dollar, you can watch a poet die Chorus
7.
I was eighteen years old When I went into the Army Recruiting station And took their little test They told me I could have any job I wanted But, I had to pick whichever Served my country best Decided I Could serve my country better If I put my boots on the ground At home Didn't need to go off Crossing any oceans Or killin me some strangers For reasons That ain't even my own See I think I can sing like a patriot And, no that ain't really up to you Yes I have been called Anti-American, commie, and a hippie Yeah, I've had the Totalitarian Blues I had some friends that went off Fightin in the desert To protect my freedom To write these little songs I said thank you But, no thanks, if I need em To be protected I was never free at all Chorus Now seventeen years later They're still marchin 'round Afghanistan Guarding them opium fields With no end in sight May have taken me a while To kick my codeine habit But, I never killed nobody And, I'm doing alright Chorus

Long Way 03:11
You got a long way To go alone You got a long way Without a friend It's a long way To go alone You gotta get your self up And moving again Sometimes I think about my past And, wonder how much I been lied to Wonder if I ever had myself a friend at all While I'm sitting here Staring at my rearview Sitting here just staring at my rearview Chorus Sometimes, I'm drifting in and out Waiting for my light to turn green And, I'm thinking bout things from a lifetime ago Well, these objects Are closer than they seem Objects are closer than they seem Chorus I've been stuck waiting here so long Thinking bout all the places that I've been And, I know that's me In the mirror there Just sitting there Reflecting on back when Sitting there reflecting on back when Chorus

Canyon Road 04:48
It's been a long Coupe days on this canyon road But, I'll be here a while Cause I still got plenty miles Left to go It's been hard times These past couple days I think it's bout to end But, when I come around the bend It's just the same I accept this as my penance for What I've done Of all those I've hurt None could ever be worse Than those I've loved But, there's a pretty little river That runs right through the center Of it all Where the water's always cold Cause it comes from off that snowy Waterfall When it flows over the rocks I swear sometimes I hear it talkin To me It says, don't ever give up son This entire canyon's from This tiny stream I watch the shadows wander Across the ground And the sun across the sky It says, this is where you'll die And, not be found Cause the coyotes and the buzzards gonna Pick your bones You know it's such a shame You're gonna die out here in vain All alone Chorus I finally fall down Upon my knees Think it'll all be over soon But, there's a yellow cactus bloom Lookin' back at me It says, you've been broken hearted All along the way Well the whole point of this Is just persist And, love anyway Chorus
10.
I been thinking Lately To myself Baby Heroes die Yes, they do Cause people change And so do you And, it makes me wonder When I was younger I did so much to dirty my name It makes me wonder When I was younger How I survived to this day It makes me wonder When I was younger I was bad as I could be It makes me wonder When I was younger How this world ever put up with me I been forgiving Those I've blamed It's never-ending Anyway It took You so long Just to find Me and I wasted So much time Chorus And, then in ten years Thereabout I'll be thinking back on me now And, Shame'll find me Once again But, we'll shake hands And agree like we're old friends Chorus
