When I went into the Army
Recruiting station
And took their little test
They told me I could have any job I wanted
But, I had to pick whichever
Served my country best

Decided I
Could serve my country better
If I put my boots on the ground
At home
Didn't need to go off
Crossing any oceans
Or killin me some strangers
For reasons
That ain't even my own

See I think I can sing like a patriot
And, no that ain't really up to you
Yes I have been called Anti-American, commie, and a hippie
Yeah, I've had the Totalitarian Blues

I had some friends that went off
Fightin in the desert
To protect my freedom
To write these little songs
I said thank you
But, no thanks, if I need em
To be protected
I was never free at all
